Support, care and social enterprise
Sunrise Siem Reap center is an ex-government run orphanage that was handed over to the care of Sunrise Cambodia in 2004. Since the handover, our dedicated social workers have been working tirelessly to repatriate the kids in full-time residential care back to their home communities and families that are able to love and care for these children. It’s a long process as the utmost care must be taken to ensure that every child is placed into a safe environment.
In the meantime, the children that remain in residential care at Sunrise Siem Reap center get nutritious food, shelter, care and schooling in a safe environment with trusted Khmer staff. The centre is structured to simulate a traditional Cambodian community, with every 4-5 kids placed under the care of a house ‘mum’ and ‘dad’ and older kids of the family supporting the younger ones within the wider structure of the center.
A social enterprise that changes lives
How do you turn some of the poorest and dependent children in the world in to self-sufficient, independent adults who have courage and economic stability? Launch a successful, trailblazing social enterprise of course!
Earlier this year, the Sunrise restaurant and retail store in Siem Reap opened its doors and hearts to weary travellers. It is a place where your mouth enjoys a meal and your heart enjoys giving, attracting travellers from all over the world who are looking for a chill place to eat some quality local and international food, sip on a cocktail and change the world. And the best part? The restaurant, shop and bar is a world-class training centre for young adults of Sunrise who are ready to go out and conquer. These budding professionals gain experience in hospitality, customer service, food and beverage service, administration, finance, management and how to run a thriving business. All while bringing home their first income to set themselves up for the future. How good is that!
