EOFY Appeal 2018

The 2018 End of Financial Year is approaching, and we are appealing to your generosity to help fund this vital work.

Our focus this year is on the mothers of the Sunrise communities, all of whom often share their personal struggles with Geraldine. It is their wish to simply see their children live happy and prosperous lives.

According to UNESCO’s 2013 Education for All Global Monitoring Report, if all women received a primary education, there would be 1.7 million fewer malnourished children. This reiterates the significance of education and its role in breaking the poverty cycle.

Thanks to the help of our generous donors, we are turning this statistic around for Cambodian communities. By helping us to fund our education initiatives, you can secure a community’s future by providing free education for families who need extra support. By paving the way for a child’s learning career, you are building a path to their achieving a better life for themselves, their families as well as their communities.

Creating these opportunities is at the heart of what Sunrise does. The story of Meas Sreynang is one that we’d like to tell you about. Meas is a 28-year-old mother of three, residing in a small rental room in Takhmao Town, Kandal. Her youngest daughter is just six months old, while her oldest is currently enrolled in the Sunrise English Programme at Prek Ho Primary School and the other at Mama’s Daycare.

Since Mama’s Daycare opened its doors in 2016, there has been vast improvement in the standard of living in the area, giving parents the chance to focus on work or to care for infant children as their pre-schoolers benefit from free education and care. Meas is grateful for the support that Sunrise has given to her daughters, saying that she can now focus on looking after her youngest child whilst her husband goes to work. When her youngest daughter is old enough to attend Mama’s Daycare, Meas plans to focus on establishing a small business or work in the garment factory. She extends her warmest okun (thank you) to all of Sunrise’s supporters:

“Thank you, Sunrise. Please continue to operate the daycare programme so that more families who are in need of this kind of support can join.”

Just like Meas, Nhem Sopheak, can truly appreciate the difference Sunrise’s work has made for her family. 33-year-old Nhem also resides in Takhmao Town, Kandal, just a short distance from Mama’s Daycare. She makes a living by selling fruit door-to-door while her husband is employed as a construction worker. Their daughter is currently enrolled in Mama’s Daycare programme, which allows both parents to focus on work and earn an income for basic household needs. For this, Nhem is truly grateful for all the support Sunrise has provided for her family:

“My daughter has been well taken care of. She is healthy, and I hope that this project lasts for many years. Thank you, Sunrise!”

This is what your life-changing contributions are making possible. If we can continue this vital work, we can make a difference to so many more lives and the communities in which they live.
